The Oscilloscope Clock IX on a nice flat faced 5UP1 type CRT.

The Oscilloscope Clock IX is the next version of the raster style scope clock, with the higher voltage to drive 5" and larger CRTs, using a large toroidal transformer that produces significantly less EMI. The outside dimensions are about 7" W x 8" H x 18" D for a typical 5" CRT. A 5UP1 is a bit shorter at about 16" D. As in previous versions, the supply can be from 120VAC mains (USA) or from 240VAC (some other countries) easily changed by setting a small jumper.

It runs the same firmware as the previous version, with minor improvements, and has built-in Wifi connection as in the scope clock VIII. The firmware automatically detects the line voltage frequency and sets the scan cycle to match. The menu screen makes it easy to select frequency, timezone, DST (on/off), Wifi on/off and display style (alternating/digital only/analog only). Date and day can be displayed any time by pressing slow set and toggle.

The prototype setup showing the functions and settings can be viewed here.

A demo video is shown here.

There are three settings for the display: alternating between digital and analog every ten seconds (recommended to conserve the CRT from burn-in), digital only or analog only.

Shown on a 5ABP11, blue phosphor which is beautiful but unfortunately not as bright as the green, and also consequently more difficult to photograph.

The Oscilloscope Clock IX will drive many different large CRT types, even some in different color phosphors like those shown.

The Oscilloscope Clock IX is also available as a DIY kit, which is very similar to the kit for the previous version, except that this version will produce over 1,000VDC, quite more than the first version which produced only about 600VDC. To do this, the kit uses a larger, high voltage toroidal transformer as well as the smaller one. The kit can also be built to drive the smaller CRTs as in the previous version, by following the "low voltage" configuration, in which the larger transformer is not necessary.

The kit can be customized according to the pledge, starting from the pc board & chips only, to a fully inclusive kit with everything including a CRT (limited suppy).
