The Open Doors Project

The Open Doors Project is a non-profit organisation providing outdoor learning experiences for children with a range of SEN.

Your donation can make a huge difference to the lives of children with severe learning disabilities by allowing us to purchase resources, transport, and clothing to allow them to participate.

From Spring 2018 we have been running a range of projects focusing on nature and the outdoors, available to all children with special needs in the Birmingham area. The activities have included:

- gardening
- sensory play
- walking and exploring
- cycling
- visits to areas of Birmingham

These activities are often not available to children with special needs, and we provide a sensory and communication-rich experience for them. While other autism and SEN friendly groups run, we focus on the outdoors as a way of encouraging confidence, communication, and social skills. Outdoor learning and play is widely considered important by learning professionals, and gives many benefits such as improved self-esteem and lower anxiety.

Any donation would be hugely appreciated. Your money can provide:

- wet weather clothing
- wellies
- packed lunches
- minibus hire
- sensory/specialist resources
