The Open Door Project

Valley Development Projects (VDP) has served the disadvantaged communities of the Noordhoek Valley since 1989. Working primarily with Ocean View & Masiphumelele, we have responded to the needs of the community; enabling us to implement an integrated developmental approach.We address a wide range of social challenges facing the communities.

With up to 80% of adults unemployed, problems such as malnutrition, inadequate housing and ill health are endemic. In such circumstances, the VDP provides a ray of hope for families trying to build a better life for themselves.

Over the years, the Open Door has reached over 1000 children through its weekly activities. Our programmes target the most marginalised members of the community and never turn anybody away. Over 150 children under 18yrs benefit daily at our centres in Ocean View & Masiphumelele.

Our aim is to help young people develop positive social skills & provide a safe, stimulating environment during their free time. The Open Door also provides parental workshops & adult support groups, to encourage strong parental skills & relationships.
