Hey! And welcome to this campaign. First of all, thank you for checking our page! We greatly appreciate that. If you are looking for a way to support a good cause and a great adventure, you are in the right place. Lets cut to the chase.
We are students. Our names are Gael Tims and Marco Hjorth. Currently studying and living in Amsterdam. A couple of months ago we came across an idea that tickled our fancy. What if we cycled from Amsterdam to Oslo in one week? Gael always wanted to visit Norway in order to see the trolls. Secondly, Marco is a native and he is heading back to fish in the summer. Thirdly, both of us have a serious interest in environmental issues and finding a way to reduce our carbon footprint. What is stopping us then?
So yes, we are biking from Amsterdam to Oslo. 1400 KM. Seven days. You don't think that is possible? Then you already have a good reason for helping us achieving it! Young and dumb people can do anything. Starting the 7th of July at 9:00 am in Amsterdam, two ambitious and confident students are leaving for Oslo. We would like to make you a part of the journey however! Students have never been the most wealthy part of society and they never will be, thats why we are asking for financial assistance from you. We believe that we together can inspire other people to do similar things and at the same time become more environmentally conscious!
Gael Tims is a 21 year old dutchman who is passionate about cycling, rock climbing, nature, photography and most importantly adventure. He's currently studying at Team Academy Amsterdam, focusing on building a social media platform for the future! Nerd. He is a good guy though. And single. Here is a link to his Facebook - profile, ladies. https://www.facebook.com/gael.tims
Marco is an all around maniac. 23 years from Norway. Born in Norway, exported to the US and now stuck in a very flat country called The Netherlands. In other words, he has worldly experience. He's a cycling nut and is addicted to pushing his limits as a sportsman and in business. A classic overachiever.
We are well aware that a journey like this needs equipment & preparation, like any other expedition. That´s why we are asking for your support. We have divided the financial structure into three parts for you to see: bike equipment, nutrition & sleep and travelling extras. Your contribution and financial support given to this journey will be used in one of the segments.
1. Bike equipment, meaning bike oil, extra chains, backup tubes, chamois - cream etc.
2. Nutrition & sleep, meaning food, places to sleep, drinks etc.
3. Travelling extras, meaning backpacks, bottles, cycling clothes etc.
We will use a 100 % transparency policy, meaning that you will know exactly what your money goes to. Your name and contribution will be mentioned in every case. If you have something specific you want us to do with your contribution, make sure to mention this in the comment section. In order for you to follow the journey we have created a Facebook-event where all pre -, present - and post updates will be posted. Just click this link and check out how things are going: https://www.facebook.com/events/2010849882499572/
The route is already decided and we will make sure to post running updates on this. The campaign goes on from the time you read this until the 14th of July. Meaning, you have the possibility to send contributions during the week we are actually fighting for survival, just like in the The Hunger Games.
Additionally, we wanted from the beginning to connect this with an environmental cause. That is why 50 % of all contributions will go to an environmental organisation/cause of our choice. This year we have decided to support Sea Shepherd! An international organisation which protects, conserves and defends our oceans. They fight the threats of our ocean ecosystems, like overfishing and habitat destruction. Their story goes back to 1977 and they are one of the toughest direct - action movements that conserve our oceans. If you want to know more, check out https://www.seashepherdglobal.org/.
That is all the information we have for you all at this moment. We would love to answer any questions you may have regarding our project. Again, if you are already interested in contributing make sure to mention your name and instructions. We will make sure to keep you posted on how we are doing in the meantime! And remember, we only have one planet. Lets treat it the way you would like to be treated. With respect.
Gael & Marco.
