The Mount Christian Children Centree was started in a strong Christian foundation to provide education, care, and food, clothing and medical assistance for about 75 orphans and destitute children in rural southwest Kenya. Our schools are located near Homa Bay, Nyanza Province, just a few miles from Lake Victoria.
In 2011 we were registered as a Kenyan Community Based Organization with the Ministry of Culture and Social Services. THE FOUNDER AND OPERATIONAL DIRECTOR The Kenyan founder and Director of The mount Children centre is Joshua Owuor Adoyo and Appointed Phanuel Illah as Operational Director. Joshua attributes his desire to help orphans to his own experience growing up in a very poor local family and losing his father at the age of 8. He is a remarkable man who has dedicated his life to higher purposes ever since the generosity of good Samaritans enabled him to graduate from college with the prospect of a career as community developer.
However, instead of pursuing a path of personal financial security, he began a micro-financing organization in his community to help widows at the age of 20. This began when he lent $20 from his own pocket to each of two single, destitute women with babies. Each woman turned the money into a business selling roasted corn and other vegetables along a busy road. During this time, Joshua also started taking orphans into his own home and recruiting some local widows to do likewise. Others noticed Joshua's ability to bring together the needed resources to care for the growing number of destitute children, and more children arrived on his doorsteps. In 2010 Joshua officially opened The mount Children’s Center and continues to oversee and direct the operations of the school.
Joshua’s Vision is to see the vulnerable in this community become self-reliance people in the community and be able to drive poverty from their various families and become responsible citizen.
