The Meal: a virtual, international meal to support Jai Jagat’s vision of global and local Justice and Peace.

Update posted by Fran Wilde On Oct 20, 2020

This is to say a big thank you to all of you who so generously donated to Jai Jagat 2020 UK's appeal to support migrant workers in India who are displaced through Covid-19 strictures, with 25% going to support our group and community efforts here in the UK. So far, £685 has been raised through our fundraiser and a further £120 through Action Village India and in cash.

You'll find out how The Meal was celebrated on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/JaiJagat2020UK. There was a strong sense of the international support for Jai Jagat's purposes, of how the movement brings together people from different cultures but with similar concerns for progress on issues of social and climate Justice, community and international Peace.

In Geneva itself there was a large European gathering summarised in this message from Benjamin Joyeux, one of the main organisers for this year's The Meal.

"Thanks again and congratulations to everyone, and in particular to the marchers from France and Switzerland who have made it possible that, despite the pandemic and the containment measures, marches were able to converge in Geneva in this month of September 2020.

Even if we were not able to influence the agenda of the United Nations, it is only a postponement, and these events have nevertheless started to make their mark.

You will also find below a link to a first article summarising the day of debate on 2 October devoted to the green and non-violent economy, on the occasion of Gandhi's 151st birthday (in French).

https://jaijagatgeneve.ch/la-releve-par-une-economie-verte-et-non-violente/ (For people who cannot read French there are free internet software packages). Feel free to share and disseminate widely in your virtual and real networks."

Here below we have one of the actions of the weekend - the Bird of Peace, all the way from Lyon, together with other international Jai Jagat walkers, presenting themselves outside the UN.

Thank you for your support and interest.

A bit late in the day - but a dinner was had and thoughts of this amazing initiative given whilst we ate. Well done to all who are actively engaged in this organisation, especially Ginnie and Nicholas.
