On April 23rd, 2019. My brother, Jamaal Metu overdosed on a narcotic known as fentanyl. He was not aware of what he was taking. Up until that day, my brother was suffering with several mental disorders that went untreated and unnoticed for most of his life. He didn’t understand the medical conditions he faced would ultimately alter his state of mind and cause him to self medicate for many years, turning to prescription drugs and narcotics for mental relief. I have been studying his illnesses for over 15 years now and realized the main problem we were facing with was the lack of funding and resources for people in our community who face mental illnesses. Not having proper care and facilities to accommodate these types of patients and cases has forced me to start the Jamaal Project in his honor. With your help, I can get the necessary funding needed to assist with a staff of specialists and facilities to aid the community; especially for the lower income communities. I believe if my brother had the resources and support for his conditions without worrying of financial obligations, we could have kept him alive a little longer and seek help. Thank you in advance for your help! God bless you all!
