The Homeless Bundle Project aims to raise enough money to create care packages for between 50-200 homeless people in Hong Kong, depending on the funds raised.
Rent prices per square foot in Hong Kong are astronomically high for a city with such a large population. For a one-bedroom apartment in the city, the average monthly cost is $16,551 HKD, which equates to $2129.49 USD or €1931.44 EUROS. With the low salaries that exist for most jobs, people are unable to find an affordable home to return to every night. It is commonplace to see homeless people during the day and night lugging carts full of cardboard and thin blankets around the streets. Government housing has left many people on the waiting list, for years at a time.
This project wishes to help the homeless by offering bundles of items that might be necessary, particularly now in the wintertime.
On the list:
- Food Coupons for convenience stores such as Fusion, 7/11
- Socks to keep warm
- Other additional items of clothing, such as jackets, hats, scarves, etc.
- Water bottles
- Bandaids and other simply medical equipment/medication that may be helpful
- Any additional items that are necessary or useful
Disclaimer: We will likely not be donating any actual money, as we believe in making sure the money raised will go towards getting them what they need.
We aim to distribute our bundles by March 29th, on this year's Good Deeds Day. We hope to have raised enough by March 20th, to give us time to purchase the items. We will distribute them directly, and spend the day with the homeless population in HK, providing companionship alongside the donations. If you live in HK, do not hesitate to contact us about volunteering and joining in on March 29th!
As the primary organizer of this project, this means a lot. My team and I are all high school (junior) students in HK, and are unlikely to attain these funds by other means. We'd be grateful for your support. There is not enough good in this world, so we hope to give something to those who need it!
