Preserve their History | Help build their Future
The mission of The Heritage Bukit Lawang project is to alleviate poverty in Bukit Lawang by providing access for education. With this tool, the people of Bukit Lawang have the means to lift themselves out of poverty and create sustainable economies to better their own livelihoods.
We strive to provide this need to the people. In so doing we are confident that we will have built the foundation for a better life and a way to end poverty on the village.
Empowering communities through humanitarian aid
We are deeply committed to lessening the consequences of poverty in Bukit Lawang. Our aim is to provide humanitarian aid through village-based projects by creating educational programs. While these are our top priorities, so too is preserving and respecting the fragile culture and traditions of the Bataknese and Karonese people.
The Heritage Bukit Lawang believes that each and everyone of us has a responsibility to better use our position and resources to help people living in poverty realize their needs and vision of a better world.
The Heritage Bukit Lawang is proud to be part of an international movement to educate the children of this world. A key part of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve universal primary education. The Heritage Bukit Lawang Project has put access to education as a primary goal. Indonesia does provide access to education, but in many cases the facilities are too small, unequipped and in complete disrepair- that’s where we come in.
We focused on school structures, libraries, and supplies. This was a great way to involve our amazing volunteer base that came to Bukit Lawang on a monthly basis. Families came with suitcases packed with crayons, books, and other school supplies. They also became involved by painting murals on school walls, donating sports equipment, donating contributions toward infrastructure renewal, and buying of new furniture to be used in the classrooms.
Key highlights of our work to date include:
- 5 primary schools are supported by the Project The schools are supplied with water, and toilets, tables and chairs, libraries and books, teaching aids for the teachers and school supplies for 2,600 students each school term.
- To prepare the next generations for future employment opportunities our English Language Projects are teaching 1,000 primary and secondary school children English and basic computer skills.
- The project is one of our malnutrition projects that feeds 2,600 children three days a week at 5 Primary Schools.
