It's me Alison (37), my husband Jake (44) and my son Koda (20 months). We live in Olympia Washington. If you've never been to Olympia Washington, it's beautiful here. You can look out and see the Olympic mountains (when it's clear), see the beautiful sight of Mt. Rainier in the distance (when it's clear) and the Puget Sound waters are so close by. I've lived here for 10 years plus, my husband for almost 20 years, he more than I have seen this place go downhill. The vagrants have increased, the trash, graffiti, homelessness and the smell of downtown has gotten stinkier. Business owners have resorted to makeshift road blocks so that their alcove's aren't slept in during the night and subsequently peed/pooped in. The downtown corridor is avoided by most, but for us we can't avoid it. We live one mile from it. My husband works at a tavern downtown. I've worked in state government in the information technology field for over a decade. We have visited the Big Island a few times before we decided that's where we want to live. We ended up selling my home on the east side of Olympia and using that money to purchase land in a development on the Big Island called Leilani Estates. This is a really nice subdivision of homes, the houses are all kept nice and the association makes sure that people aren't living in trash. The paved roads are almost brand new and I can see raising my son there. I can see him learning how to ride a bike there, learning how to skateboard, surf. My husband has been renovating the house we currently live in for the past 5 years with the hopes that the market will be enough to where we have some equity in our home and can make the move to Hawaii and build our own house. And when I saw build our own, I mean it. My husband knows every trade there is and the things you doesn't know about home building he is quick to pick up a book and learn. Unfortunately, the moving expenses to move to an island along with the cost of materials for building our home is quite a bit. We realize that it will cost about 160,000 to build our own home. That's everything. That's solar, septic, house pad, excavation, home materials like 2x4's and windows.

My husband is burned out on downtown Olympia, I'm burned out on state government work. If I stuck through, I'd have 27 more years to go to reach full retirement. But by that time, I think I'd be so jaded and burnt I wouldn't know who I was. Jake and I want to give our son Koda a better life than the one we see him having here. We see how Koda is with water. He absolutely loves it. We've taken him to the Big Island 3 times now and each time he's older and this last time he was old enough to play in the water and throw rocks at the water. He had the time of his life! And as a parent, I want to be able to give him a place where he can grow up that's not cold 9 months out of the year. Where he will have access to the warm water and where he can have plenty of friends and good schools close to home. Did I mention that Leilani has a community center with a playground?

Any help is appreciated in getting us to our goals and making our dreams happen. Thank you for reading this!
