Hi! I'm Hazel from the Philippines.
Last year, I have finished my degree in music, Bachelor of Arts in Music (we don't have a major) in University of Baguio, Philippines. I was under the performing arts scholarship, being a cellist of the school orchestra. I wanted to continue studying and pursue music technology so I decided to find a job while enrolled in University of Santo Tomas taking up Bachelor of Music major in Music Technology. I really want to be a music producer and make music. I was working full time then but still not making enough money for school so I had to drop out in the middle of the semester without earning any credit. It was a hard decision to make, to dropout and keep my job, but I had to.
Now, I'm still here in this job (real estate marketing), working full time, earning just enough for my daily expenses and for my dog's, and also helping with the bills at home. Recently I found out about studying in Canada, that I can study full time and work part-time for 20 hours a week and can still provide for myself. I am amazed, opportunities like that is near impossible here in my home country. So I did my research. I also asked my mom if we could get any help. Fortunately, she has a cousin in Vancouver that is willing to help with my accommodation. I was almost ecstatic since that would be a huge help, but school expenses and travel documents are still a problem.
I am now 24 years old, struggling financially to fulfill my dreams. My dad has retired and my mom is a teacher. My 2 siblings has their own life now but they would probably help me with the travel documents and airfare to Vancouver. I already did my research, and I want to study in Douglas College in New Westminster, BC. They have this 2-year program in Music Technology and campus is just a few minutes away from my aunt's house. I plan to apply for the winter semester next year, or summer being the latest. It might not go according to my planned schedule but it's okay, I'll just go whenever funds are available. :)
The heart wants what the heart wants. So, would you be willing to help make my dreams come true? In return, I promise to give back when I can to people like me who is struggling to continue their education. And I'll be sending my love all the way from the Philippines to all of you! <3
