The “Get out of College Debt” Project

Hello!

My name is Mitchell.

I am 24 years old and drowning in college debt. I have obtained my Bachelors Degree and I have 1 year remaining in my Masters program. Both have cost me over $87,000 in loans thus far.

I recently spoke with a financial advisor regarding my debt. I was told the following, "you will be 78 years old before your debt is paid off in full."

No, I am not exaggerating. I am not ashamed to tell you that I cried in my car after the meeting. I was always told in high school that my education was the best investment I could ever make. Now it has buried me before I could even start my career.

To be honest, I have no idea how to ask others for help. I have been self-reliant my whole life. I have always had a job and continue to work every day, but I cannot afford to live anymore. As a result, reaching out is not something I am particularly fond or proud of doing, but it has become an option of last resort.
