Greetings and Welcome to, “The Garden Project”, where we are turning a weed filled city lot into wonderful urban garden plots.

I am Bryan and I have made it my mission to convert this city lot in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada from being a weed filled eyesore (that got mowed), into multiple productive, prettier garden beds. Would You like to be part of the change?

We have now entered Stage 2 (as mentioned on the gardens website) and You Now are able to be part of this wonderful transformation :)

Simply making a contribution today will ensure: more weeds are pulled, current garden beds are amended, new garden beds are created and all the other gardening related things get done.

Stage 1 trials were totally self funded and were the test to actually see if garden plants would grow, instead of weeds. I figured if the weeds were growing then garden plants should as well. Trials were successful except for some carrot seeds. The soil the carrots were planted in dried out to fast because there is not yet enough organic matter in the garden beds. Amending the soil will help alleviate this in the future.

I see The Garden Project as not just a single persons project (that only benefits one person) but as a project of, for and by many.

First off being partnered with (and a user of) the Canadian Mental Health - Regina Branch Club (and the Clubs kitchen) allows my fellow Regina Branches Club members the opportunity to volunteer to help me with garden tasks and build various forms of positive Mental Health.

Secondly is the benefit of being connected to the Clubs kitchen. Having this connection allows the kitchen to receive produce grown in the gardens. The produce they receive is then used in the meals that are available to all the Clubs members. Thus helping to feed many people.

Thirdly are all my extended local and international internet family members. You my honored readers, social networking helpers and contributors whom are willing (and able) to assist financially. All of you are helping in your own way with the city lot transformation project. You are all special to me.

If you would like you can follow along with the development of The Garden Project over on the gardens website. Some of you may be wondering why I chose to set The Garden Projects campaign amount level to the amount it is at. This was to try to recuperate some of my personal savings used for the Stage 1 Trials. Any amount contributed after the initial target is met will go towards completing all the Extended Goals.

With the Stage 1 trials now complete the project has move forward to Stage 2.

Stage 2 involves several stages that include opening up of the opportunity for my local and international internet friends to join the transformation. Here are a couple ways You can get involved:

Helping for Free. If you are unable to contribute money at this time that is OK. Instead You can share this pages URL with any of your social networks (like Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Please also share the gardens website URL address so all your friends that you think may be interested will hear about, The Garden Project.

Financial Assistance. By financially funding The Garden Project contributors will allow the project to move forward even faster and Help Get Rid Of The Weeds to Create More Garden Beds. With your financial assistance many funding goals will be able to be completed (listed below). After you have contributed also please share the URLs to your social networks as well.

Here is the current list of Funding Goals for The Garden Project:

  1. Re-coupe most (if not all) of Stage 1 trial expenses. After Stage 1 expense goals are attained we then will aim to complete as many of the "Extended Funding Goals" as possible. The extended goals will continue to support The Garden Project through 2018 and into the following years to come.
  2. Extended Funding Goals: (purchased in order of importance and as usability permits)
    1. Soil Testing (by a lab, not with soil test kits from a box store)
    2. Coco Coir (instead of Peat Moss, a non renewable resource)
    3. Soil PH Balancing Additives
    4. Worm Castings
    5. Rock Dust
    6. Azomite
    7. Kelp Meal
    8. Feather Meal
    9. Rototiller
    10. Cover Crop Seeds
    11. A Compost Tea Brewing Set Up (pails, air stones, a good air pump, formulated compost for making compost teas)
    12. (more will be added when needed)

If you are willing, able and would like to be a part of The Garden Project Lot Transformation please consider adding your contribution now and or sharing us with all your friends.

Thank you for visiting my campaign, Bryan H.

Until the next time we talk have a Wonderful rest of your day :)

  • @Krista I was thinking of trying a fall cover crop but with our low evening temperatures of late I am wondering if the seeds would have enough time to develop enough before the snow hit.
