I started this fundraiser to help Lusanya Lydia: a remarkable young woman who has dedicated her life to the protection, care & education of children left orphaned by the civil conflict in Uganda, Africa.

Lusanya’s story begins when she was 2 years old - and her parents were killed by rebels in the Ugandan civil conflict. Abandoned in the bush & left alone to die, she was rescued by a kind hearted woman who took her home and raised her as her own; providing love, safety and an education.

It was this education which sparked Lusanya’s passion for teaching, and after years of diligent study she graduated from University as a qualified nursery teacher.

On securing her first teaching post, and inspired by her adoptive mother’s kindness, Lusanya began educating & caring for as many orphaned street children as she could (Uganda has a high population of children orphaned by the conflict & who live on the streets without access to shelter, food, medicine or education). In 2016 she was able to rent a small house and take 6 of those children into her full-time care.

Thinking ahead to their future, she used the money she had saved from her teaching job to buy a small piece of land – where they could grow food and hopefully one day build a home.

Working the land

For a time, things were going well – her adoptive children were thriving, and she continued to help the street children. Then came 2020 - and with the arrival of Covid 19 schools across Uganda were closed down. Lusanya lost her job, income and eventually her home - as she could no longer pay the rent. Luckily a kind neighbour offered them a temporary room in her house, but with 6 children to provide for, Lusanya needed a home. Turning to her church community for help, they kindly offered to build a small house on her land - but could only provide funds for the brick structure (see photo below). Now Lusanya needs to find funding for a roof, windows, door & cement for plastering the walls, so that she & her family can move in.

This is where you and your kindness can help.

With your help & support, I aim to provide not only the funds to finish the house – but also sufficient funds to provide a solar panel for light & phone charging (for safety), a toilet, water filter, & irrigation materials to bring water from the river.

With these items in place, Lusanya and her family have a safe, secure home and the means to live sustainably on their land. This is my dream for them – and with your help I believe it’s achievable.

We may not be able to change the world, but we can change the world for this amazing woman who has dedicated her life to selflessly serving the needs of vulnerable children affected by conflict. By supporting her, we are ensuring that she is able to be there for the children who need her the most - in the same way that her own adoptive mother was able to be there for her in her moment of need.

If you can donate money – please be assured 100% of it will go directly to Lusanya & the completion of her home. ANY amount is welcome - large or small!!

f you can’t donate money – perhaps you can share knowledge or advice? (Lusanya needs help with seasonal crop planting, water filters & irrigation systems). Do feel free to message me with any suggestions or questions.

THANK YOU for your support!! It means so much to Lusanya & her children!! Much love to all:)
