Hello,

My name is Justine and I live in Poland.

I created this campaign, because I want to help my mother. She is in her fifties and she struggles with financial problems. Here is her story:

She was born in a rather poor family as a third child. They didn’t have a lot of money, just enough to pay for utilities and food. But she was a very good student and she got a scholarship. Because of that, she was able to go to college and get a master’s degree in English philology.

She got a job as an English teacher in primary school. Pupils really loved her, because she was very funny and she could teach them the way they could understand everything. After 20 years of teaching, the school she was working at forced her to quit her job, because she got very sick. Doctors diagnosed her with a life threatening brain tumor. She had a surgery in early 2000s. Since then, her only source of money is a pension which is about 1200 PLN (about 280 Euros or 320$). She is all alone – my father died right after her surgery. The surgery was successful and the doctors cut out the whole tumor. But there were some complications after it. Now she has an epilepsy and she often has seizures. She was also diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome, asthma and has severe headaches. She also has heart problems and diabetes.

As I said at the beginning, she had two siblings, a sister and a brother. Her brother is still alive. Her sister died a few months ago. Before her sister got sick and died, she convinced my mother to get a big loan for her. The sister couldn’t get a loan, because she was to old to do so. My mother loves her whole family, so she went to the Bank and got a loan for her sister. The loan was 27.000$. Unfortunately, her sister died and she left my mother in debt. She can not afford to pay the loan instalments. When I found out about the whole situation, I went straight to my family and friends for help. They were kind enough to help us and they gave us 10.000$. But the loan is still 17.000$.

My mother is now renting an apartment that she can no longer afford, because she has to choose whether she is going to pay for her utilities and food or pay the loan instalment.

Because of the whole situation, she was diagnosed with depression. It honestly breaks my heart when I look at her and I see what she became during those few months. She was always smiling and she always considered a funny person with a lot of jokes. She is no longer that person. Now she is sad and does not want to talk to anyone. She cries a lot and she can not sleep at night. I am really concerned about her mental health.

She is very afraid of our law, that states that she can even go to prison if she does not pay the instalments on time.

I already gave her all of my savings and I am able to buy her food and medicine she needs to take for all of her illnesses. Unfortunately, I don’t make enough money to pay off the loan.

I really want to help her and be able to see the mother I knew before it all happened.

I kindly ask you all for donations towards my mother. Every single penny will go towards paying off the debt she is now left with.

We would be very grateful if you could help us to pay off the debt or even few instalments.

Thank you for your time. God bless you!
