When someone we care about nearly loses their life, the gratitude we feel when they survive is so huge that, for a few days, we forget about everyday things like money. But to save a life is sometimes expensive…very expensive.

Paul Riekert, creator of bands like Battery 9, Joos Tonteldoos en die Dwarstrekkers and Die Menere, had to have emergency surgery done. The medical personnel at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg put together a team on a Sunday night, at great speed, and not only saved his life, but also provided great post-op care in their ICU. They are heroes.

The worst part is now over and the man lives, and although recovery will take some time, he’ll be able to again enrich the world with his music. Read Paul’s account of his experience here: http://battery9.co.za/2020/07/11/to-hell-and-back/

The cost of this excellent medical care is quite high.

Although some of the costs could be covered, additional funds are sorely needed. So here I am with my begging bowl, asking for donations to help cover Paul’s medical bills.

We’re living in strange and difficult times and most of us have less money to spend, but every bit will help. I’ll be extremely grateful.

Die Fix The Machine Fonds
