Approx. 170,000 thousand dogs are abandoned each year in Cyprus. Where do the "lucky" retired racehorses go? Who feeds the (approx) 1.5 million cats on the island? Only 1.38% of all nonprofit organizations in Cyprus are for Animal Welfare. For a country with less than 1 million inhabitants the numbers speak for themselves. It is with a huge thanks to a select few hand of individuals that these animals have some hope. Non profit animal organisations in Cyprus are almost entirely privately funded with the help of those good Samaritans who donate, deliver a food bag, a hay to eat, a blanket, a bed to sleep on ..but the expenses always keep adding up with more and more abandoned animals. These rescuers - let's call them angels - spent all their effort, their time, their money, absolute sweat tears and blood to help those without a voice. And it is for this reason I have decided to participate in the Limassol Marathon taking place on the 24th March 2019 to raise money for those selfless people who put their heart and soul into making sure as many abandoned animals as possible get a chance at a better life.
The proceeds raised will be in aid of the following non profit organisation: Moonacres Sanctuary/ Sofa Hounds - a non profit organisation which specialises in helping those animals with impairments be it amputee's, paralysis, deaf , blind they believe all animals have a right to a life filled with love and comfort (side note: as a person with an onset of a torn meniscus pending corrective surgery this one's especially close to my heart)
Targeted fundraise amount : 1000eur anything above that would just be wonderful. It's almost summer in Cyprus which means lots of ticks and fleas for a whole lot of animals. Don't buy that extra coffee this week or that cheese pie.. donate it instead.
