Turn The Key theatre is a Norwich-based theatre company with a passion for ensemble theatre, creative story-telling and creating theatre with a female voice. After our successful week-long run with 'Under the Erl Tree' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014, we are returning to the Fringe for two weeks with a new dark comedy, 'The Cupboard.' Shortlisted for the Les Enfants Terribles Award 2015, 'The Cupboard' is a unique and absurd world; a world with flamboyant characters, infectious musical numbers and dark humour. The play is set within the confinements of a cupboard in Victorian England. It tells the story of one rat's escape from the underground and her journey to discover the Big Wide World. After days of tunnelling and nearing exhaustion, Rat No. 333 is relieved to re-surface in the Cupboard, a place of mystery and mayhem. She is welcomed by an array of kooky characters, including Sweeps the broom, Righty the boot, and Cuckoo, the half-broken cuckoo clock. However, the frivolities cannot last forever, and when Rat 333 tries to leave the Cupboard to find water, she discovers that Righty has different ideas altogether. This is Jack's cupboard - no more questions.
The money we raise will go towards paying for our venue, producitons costs such as set and costume, and helping to cover the costs of staying in Edinburgh for the duration of the Festival. Anything you can donate will help our company to bring the weird and wonderful world of 'The Cupboard' to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
