Hi all good people,
It's not my birthday, and it's still a long way to Christmas, but I wish for something very heartfelt right now.
I wish for my cat to receive care.
Animals are suffering every day in our world, and my heart is bleeding for every single individual, but right now my heart is bleeding for the cat I once rescued from the street, and which I now cannot afford to provide the veterinary care he needs to avoid having pain.
My cat's name is Shams. Shams means sun in Arabic, and I gave him that name because he is the light in my life. He has been my support and given me so many happy moments in the years he has been with me. He is incredibly charismatic and wise, fun to be with and lovely to cuddle with. We are friends.
Shams is suffering a lot right now from feline stomatitis, which is a severe, painful inflammation of the mouth and gums, and can be life threatening.

Shams has severe inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth, which causes the roots of the teeth to be destroyed and the jaw bone to dissolve, which in turn leads to tooth loss.
Inflammation is already a long way in Sham's case, the veterinarian has found that he has already lost many teeth, and the jaw bone has been considerably dissolved already.
The condition Shams is in now is incredibly painful, and the only way to help him is by pulling out all his teeth, a total of 24.
This is a very costly operation to be done in two rounds. The total amounts to almost SEK 10,000, and equivalent of 300.000 Hungarian forint, or approx 940 Euro.
I stand without insurance, also live in Budapest (Hungary) and work for a low hourly wage.
Also related is that Shams was involved in an accident earlier this year. At the end of May he fell out of our kitchen window, 4 floors up. Miraculously he survived, but with several broken ribs, a broken jaw bone and also a broken leg in the shoulder. He had to go through 2 surgeries to fix the jaw, and another surgery for the shoulder.
About 1 month ago I was going to my veterinarian to perform the first set of tooth extraction, only to find that Shams was not well enough to be put under prolonged anaesthesia. After taking new radiographs and later on also an ultrasound, it was concluded that Shams had a hole in his diaphragm (the "wall" between chest cavity and stomach). The issue in Sham's case was that the spleen which is normally residing in the stomach area had pushed through the hole and was now taking up space in the chest cavity, hindering proper function of his lungs and causing problems to breath.
So, instead of treating his mouth condition, he had to go through a complicated stomach surgery to put his organs in their right place again.
At this moment, Shams is healing from the fourth operation in less than 6 months, but the mouth infection still prevails and sooner rather than later, he needs to go through 2 more surgeries to relieve him from this very painful mouth disease.
He has been through four operations already and countless visits to the emergency department due to inadequate care. This little guy has really suffered a lot more already than any animal should ever do.
Shams will forever limp and his jaw is oblique, but he lives and I know he loves life even when it hurts! Anyone who sees him understands how much want's to live, and how grateful he is for the love and care he is receiving.
Because of the accident, all my savings were previously spent with the veterinarian and I am out of funds to cure his toothache. My family and friends have already helped me so much, I can't ask for more.
Many people would probably think that he should be euthanised.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me it is not an option as long as there is available and reliable treatment of his condition. He deserves to live a long and a good life, without being in pain.
I wish I hadn't had to ask for donations, but right now I have no choice. It really feels awful to watch an animal suffer without being able to help quickly enough.
If there is anyone out there who has the opportunity to donate any small sum I would be so incredibly grateful 💜
