In Febuary 2014 a group of volunteers started a soup kitchen for the Homeless in Leigh Lancashire. my wife and i joined at the start of this year when we found out about the group and wanted to help the community. I go to Sainsburys every Monday and Friday mornings to collect trays of unsold bread and cakes kindley donated by them. We then put the trays of bread on the stage in the church where we are based, and when they come in for their hot meal they help themselves to whatever they want. We try to vary the meals every week and 3 of us take turns in cooking, but we are struggling to raise money to buy the food. We get between 22 to 35 people at every sitting and spend between £10 and £20 a time to buy the food. Over 52 weeks that means we need to raise a minimun of £1040.00 to keep the kitchen open.  We do try to recycle clothes or do an event but this year we have only raised about £105 this way. We have also approached other stores and handed letters out enquiring about them making some donation, but as yet we have had no replies. If we could raise some money this way it would go an enormous way to keep us open and to help the needy. We do have 1 girl with a baby and 2 that are pregnant, and we try to help with food parcels to those that need to feed children. Thank you for reading and i hope that we can raise some funds no matter how small your donation, it would help enormously.
