Hello,
We are two girls, 16 and 17 years old, studying the International Baccalaureate at St Johns International School in Waterloo, Belgium. To complete our Baccalaureate it is required to do a CAS project, which is a project that involves Creativity, Action and Service.
Through the help of the Swedish Embassy in Afghanistan we have come up with an idea for the project in question. It has come to our attention that there is a lack of school supplies as well as very bad facilities at the Bagrami girls’ high school in Kabul, Afghanistan. Through contact with the students and staff of the school we have established a list of the most essential equipment that they are lacking of. The goal of our project would be to gather second hand toys, school supplies, and bags and to raise enough money to improve these girls’ education environment and lives. To do so we intend to reach out to the families of our school and gather as many used supplies as possible and perhaps even organize a money-raising event if it fits the schedule of our school. We are planning to send an e-mail to the parents of students attending our school explaining our project and needs and requesting them to donate old toys, bags and school supplies and we will also accept money donations. We would then send the donated supplies to the Bagrami girls’ high school through the help of local contacts with NATO here in Belgium.
We would also like to reach out to as many kind-hearted people as possible through the internet to raise as much money as possible before our project ends in June 2013, when the gathered supplies will be sent to their destination in Afghanistan. Then we will also visit the Bagrami girls’ high school to make sure that the supplies are being used for the right cause and also to listen to the students’ thoughts on the improvements in educational equipment. As a part of our visit to Kabul we will use all the gathered funds to buy local carpenters and painters to fix some parts of the schools broken buildings.
We wish for your understanding and support in our project. Please donate as much as you can - this will go to a very important cause and we stand totally behind our project - so much that we will even ourselves go to Afghanistan to make sure evey cent is used in the right way!

This part of the school should have been erected a couple of years ago, but the project was so corrupt that nothing more than the foundation was built before the money was all stolen. It should have been 16 new classrooms for the girls.

The Computer and Science Room - Two Computers donated by our project
Update posted by BagramiSchoolProject at 05:27 amWe managed to get two computers donated to the school. They now form the start of a computer lecture room. However, the school still does not have access to working electric power during the day and of course no internet connect (it is too expensive for them).
The girl's bathroom
Update posted by BagramiSchoolProject at 05:23 amThe girls at the school only have access to a very rundown building for the bathrooms. It is cold, dirty and without running water. Would you like to use this when it is -15 degrees outside?
