The ACE5 Initiative Inter-Orphanage Spelling Bee Competition and The Search for The ACE5 Initiative Child

Ambassador is the initiative’s flagship program that brings children from orphanage homes across

the state to compete in spelling English words and a beauty pageantry. Other fun activities like:

dancing, singing, face-painting etc. are also carried out. Each orphanage home submits a list of 2

representatives for the spelling bee competition and 1 for the beauty pageantry. Scholarship

awards to cater for the cost of education is provided to winners. The winner of the beauty

pageantry, designated as The ACE5 Initiative Child Ambassador, is provided with a monetary award,

child advocacy platform and a tour around the city alongside other benefits from the initiative.

The event fosters interaction among these children, which is important for their social development.

This program has constantly been described by the homes as one of the most impactful events for the

children, as they constantly look forward and prepare months in advance for it. With over 15

orphanage homes delegates expected to grace the event, it will be the largest gathering ever for the

less privileged children in Oyo state, Nigeria.

Every child participant stands to gain a lot of the event. Some of the potential benefits are:

  1. A platform for interaction with children from other orphanage homes.
  2. Sustainable education for all children in line with the sustainable development goals.
  3. Advocacy for problems plaguing children in the Nigerian society.
  4. Skill acquisition and all-round capacity building.

The 5th Inter-Orphanage Spelling Bee Competition and The Search for The ACE5 Initiative Child Ambassador is expected to take place at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The hall has hosted many high level meetings and conferences at the University. It is proposed to be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
