Please help us avoid being evicted!
I don't know what else to do except appeal to the generosity and kindness of strangers.
- 1200 – January rent (due January 5, eviction action taken January 11, 10:00 AM EST)
- 1200 – South Carolina Supreme Court and bar reinstatement fees
- 600 – car insurance renewal
- 500 – bills, utilities, gas
What you see above is the grand total ($3500) of what we desperately need, and why.
The nutshell version of why we are at this point:
A triple diagnosis of diabetes, high blood pressure, and torn rotator cuff on top of an old, unhealed back injury have deeply impacted my husband. Computer work is painful after short periods of time because of where the back injury is located, and forget about any physical work – he simply can’t do much without surgery on both the shoulder and the back. Did I mention we have no health insurance? Did I also mention he's suicidal and seeing a counselor at the Greenville Free Health Clinic?
We are dependent on my temporary work assignments. Even though I have applied for a number of permanent positions, none have yet panned out. In the meantime, my hourly wage is crummy and the assignments are sporadic. I go long stretches without work even though I am registered with five staffing firms in the greater Greenville area. My two credit cards – used to pay previous rent and utilities - are maxed out, and between my husband’s zero credit (from not working) and my overtaxed credit, we won’t qualify for a personal loan or third credit card. Oh, and neither of us qualify for unemployment because I've made too little money and he's not worked.
My husband allowed his law license to go dormant for nine years while he took care of his mother by himself, with no help from family or friends. Now that his mother is on Medicaid in a nursing home, he has started the process of re-awakening the license, an expensive undertaking at best. We’ve managed to pay for required continued learning education (CLE) courses, but don’t have the funds to start the petitioning and filing for reinstatement.
No active reinstated law license = not being able to practice law.
No full-time job (for either of us) = no funds for health insurance.
No health insurance = no surgery to correct back and shoulder issues.
No funds also equal us being evicted. This is the most urgent reason why we respectfully request your help.
When I say "no funds", I truly mean that. We have less than $40 in our checking account, and we can’t do this without help. Our respective families are tapped out, and our friends are not in positions to either give or loan. If we were to get the injection of funds we need, we will be out of this awful rut in less than a month, and in no danger of being evicted.
We are both so grateful for your help and generosity. May 2019 see us all in better circumstances, blessed with health, wealth, and joy.
