US$2,380.00raised of $2,000.00 goal goal
Leroy Winton Rutland lived a life dedicated to serving others. He served his country, his family, his church and his community throughout his lifetime. Mr. Rutland passed away unexpectedly on December 8th, 2006. Since that time, our family has attempted to carry on his legacy of serving others in need.
One of the organizations that was near and dear to Mr. Rutland's heart was an Aiken, SC-based charity known as A.C.T.S. --- Area Churches Together Serving. For more information on A.C.T.S. : http://actsofaiken.org/
Since 1986, A.C.T.S. has been serving needy families in the Aiken area in a variety of ways: food, clothing, utility bill assistance, prescriptions, heaters, fans, etc. Mr. Rutland was an A.C.T.S. leader, advocate, volunteer and supporter. He was passionate about its mission and its impact on the local community. Mr. Rutland would also involve his children and grandchildren during his weekly volunteer hours, as he filled food orders for needy families and carried out numerous other tasks. This simple involvement helped to instill a strong sense of service in all members of Mr. Rutland's family.
Since 2007, Mr. Rutland's extended family has been donating Thanksgiving dinners to A.C.T.S. families in need. What started as holiday food supplies (complete Thanksgiving dinners; turkey and all the extras) for 5 families, has grown to meals for 10 families in 2011. In 2012, we're asking for YOUR help to raise enough money to serve 80 families in need. For about $25, (sometimes more or less, depending on the family size), we can deliver a turkey, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, frozen pies, rolls, cranberry sauce, etc through A.C.T.S. to families that otherwise may not have much of a Thanksgiving meal.
Mr. Rutland's family lives throughout South Carolina and Georgia. But we all want to come together during the Thanksgiving season to first, serve those Aiken, SC-area families in need...and second, honor the selfless man that quietly and humbly impacted countless lives. Especially ours.
