So, this little creation journey has started in Thailand. I went to teachat a rural school in a little city called Mukdahan. I was a teacher at high school and I was always searching for ways to engage these kids more into the learning process. We would do dances, plays, readings, movie nights, etc. And then I realized my favorite thing about Thailnd is food and it's also something I'd be happy to learn about.
Now sure, we have some Thai cookbooks, mostly we see noodles and seafood there. Some books are even available in Russian! But this cuisine is a Southen Thailand cuisine, whereas Mukdahan is in the North and this part of the country has its own great type of food called Isaan. I was just smitten by the complexity of this cuisine and how people in rural Thailand make use of everything. So, I wanted my kids to show me more.
During this project they would not only try to write the recipes of their favorite dishes, they'd also draw them. So in the end I had tons of recipes with amazing drawings and it all just made sense! I had to make it into a book. However, in Mukdahan we didn't have a place just for that, no printing shop was able to do it. Now back home I found a publisher who'd be happy to work with this project and convert the work of these wonderful children into a real book.
We are keeping all the original artwork and just making sure that the language is correct.
I'd like to give this book to the kids and to the school in Mukdahan to show them how something as little as a school project may transform into something beautiful. And I'm hoping to find support here!
