Campaign Story
My name is Diego Takishita, and I am a Boy Scout with Troop 2 located in Newhall, California. I am in the process of earning the rank of Eagle Scout. In order to obtain this rank I need to complete a project that benefits my community. My project entails the beautification of the orchard area at the Tesoro Adobe Historic Park in Valencia.
The Tesoro Adobe Historic Park was originally western actor Harry Carey’s homestead where he built his ranch in 1916. Not only was this his residence, but also a filming location for more than 200 silent and western films. Mr. Carey helped to make Santa Clarita a popular filming location which it is still to this day. In 2005 his ranch was donated to L.A. County with the hopes of preserving Santa Clarita’s western heritage. Today visitors can tour the historic buildings, picnic and barbeque, and watch movies at the park.
My project entails the beautification of the park’s orchard. I plan on building planters around each of the eleven fruit trees, planting three additional fruit trees, adding mulch to make a pathway through the orchard, pruning existing shrubbery, removing a gravel pile, and constructing a sign to place at the entrance of the orchard. After my project is completed, I hope that my efforts will help draw attention to a once neglected area of the park to a place where visitors feel drawn to explore the orchard and they can even pick the fruits right off the trees when they are in season.
There are a lot of moving parts to keep the project running smoothly and fundraising is one of my biggest undertakings. I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to help me complete my project. Any amount you donate will be greatly appreciated. I am relying on monetary donations to buy the needed supplies.Organizer
