We need your donations to help so many children and young people affected by the Manchester terror attack receive trauma counselling.

Charity registration number 222533, please visit our website www.canw.org.uk

Child Action Northwest are a children and families charity who provide counselling alongside other services, as a result of the terrorist attack on the 22nd May our counsellors have been overwhelmed with referrals for children and teenagers to support them in coming to terms with this awful event.

Sue Cotton, Chief Executive of CANW said: “Since Monday's awful attack we've seen a significant increase in calls to our counselling team requesting support for young people, parents, schools and other professionals all struggling to come to terms with what's happened here this week.

“Our team is pulling together to keep up with demand but we really need to make sure there is enough support to meet the need. It is going to be a long process of healing for people in Manchester and across the region and we are giving everything we've got to help our communities cope."

The referrals are coming from across the North West as children, young people and families travelled to the event from across the region.

We have offered our support across the region and really need your help to raise funds to draft in more trauma counsellors to meet the high demand and setup a national terrorist trauma counselling service in time of events like this for the future.

Because of the events on the Monday night it has really highlighted to ourselves that there should be a national terrorist attack trauma counselling service setup to support victims of this crime going forward.

CANW has around 30 counsellors who work right across the North West with young people, making it one of the largest providers in Lancashire. But it is aiming to use the additional funding to co-ordinate approach among the whole of the charity sector.

Adds Sue: “We have launched the funding campaign to help create a long term sustainable service. It’s about being able to pull all the help and support together — not just from us but from other charity partners too — so that people can get the support they need in a timely manner.”

We really need your help to make sure that we leave a lasting legacy for all of the victims involved and make sure that if ever this happened again a service would exist to respond and support victims straight away.

Please help us to create something meaningful from such a pointless attack. All of the funds raised will be used to ensure that all those affected by this tragedy will receive trauma counselling to avoid long term impact on their lives.
