Our mission at The Education Abroad Network is to change lives, one by one through our programs. Here is your opportunity to join us changing lives, run by run. The Education Abroad Network would like to invite you to attend our FOURTH ANNUAL NAFSA Charity Walk/Run in San Diego on Tuesday May 27th, 2014. Past participants have commented that it’s a real treat to escape the madness of the conference, the endless receptions and excessive consumption, and to get some fresh air, all while being a part of a great cause. This year the 1k walk/ 5K run will raise money to improve the quality of life for Burmese refugees and other minority groups throughout northern Thailand. TEAN will be donating to the Thai Freedom House on behalf of everyone who registers and completes the walk or run either in San Diego with us or in your own neighborhood on the same day across the world. Our TEAN Walk/Run has raised over $12,000 in the past three years for the Christchurch earthquake appeal in 2011, Cambodian Rural schools in 2012, and a US based charity bringing quality of life to children with disabilities through interaction with horses, all because you gave up an hour of your time at the conference. This year you don't have to be in San Diego to contribute as TEAN will honor the partiticipation of anyone who completes a 1K Walk and a 5K Run on Tuesday May 27th anywhere on the planet. All you have to do is complete the walk, snap a pic and tell us on facebook or twitter. Get your co-workers or students to sponsor you or contribute as well. Our choosen charity this year, the Thai Freedom House is a non-government, not-for-profit, language and arts community learning center in Northern Thailand dedicated to assisting families and individuals who are refugees from Burma and members of minority groups of Thailand. Thai Freedom House’s mission is to provide opportunities for displaced peoples that have slipped through the cracks of society. They are Refugees from war torn countries, Indigenous and minority people who have been denied basic human rights and those who are impoverished and crushed by their societies’ demands. Thai Freedom House educates, trains, nurtures and inspires them to make the most of their circumstances in life by showing them how to locate and use the resources available to them, within themselves and their communities. At the core of their work, the Thai Freedom House holds Indigeneous knowledge in high regard, working to help preserve traditional values, arts and languages through our weekly language classes and traditional cultural celebrations and music and dance troops. Join us and change a live today.
