What is the Overwatch World Cup?

The Overwatch World Cup is a global celebration of competition and community, organised annually by the game's developer Blizzard Entertainment. It is a prestigious tournament where the best players around the world are given the opportunity to represent and bring glory to their nation. As part of the BlizzCon gaming convention, fans from all over the world will be present to support their favourite countries and players.

Team Singapore competed in the Overwatch World Cup in 2016 and 2017, but narrowly missed the opportunity to in 2018. This year, Team Singapore has qualified along with 46 other countries, but we will need to fully fund our own travel and living expenses.

Who are we?

Team Singapore is managed by three Competition Committee members, who were elected through a public voting process open to the Singaporean Overwatch community. We are also supported by a large group of dedicated volunteers.

The most experienced, dedicated and talented Players were assessed and selected to play in Team Singapore after a series of intense trials, which tested their ability to communicate, take on leadership roles, make full use of their mechanical skills and adapt to unfamiliar situations.

How much does it cost?

It certainly isn't cheap to bring ten people (6x Players, 1x Substitute, 3x Committee) to Anaheim, Los Angeles for 8 days. Below is a breakdown of the estimated amount of money needed to cover our stay there.

The Campaign Goal is set to $30,000 as a buffer for the production costs for the crowdfunding rewards.

Why crowdfunding? What about Blizzard and sponsors?

Because Singapore is not in the list of Top 10 teams, we will be fully responsible for all our travel and living expenses. While Blizzard is offering "some support for hotels", it is the same discount offered to all BlizzCon attendees and financially impractical for housing 10 people.

Our sponsors have lent us their kind assistance in covering a large bulk of our costs, but we will likely be unable to have our costs fully covered. Hence, we have decided to launch this crowdfunding campaign to help cover the remaining expenses.

What if we don't get enough funding?

The Competition Committee is willing to cover our own costs if absolutely necessary. The Players have also been briefed on the possibility of needing to cover some of their own costs, such as food and transport.

We will explore and consider every possible solution that will bring all of us to the Overwatch World Cup successfully and safely, without financially burdening anyone too heavily.

In the unfortunate event that we are unable to secure enough funds, we will refund every backer of their donation and cancel the planned rewards.

How will the funds be handled?

Our General Manager, Teo "TCC" Chun Chieh will be in charge of managing and tracking the funds.

100% of the funds raised will be spent on getting our players to the Overwatch World Cup (e.g. plane tickets, accommodation, food, transport, etc.), as well as cover any production costs for the team's official apparel and other crowdfunding rewards.

For the sake of accountability and transparency, every financial transaction involving the crowdfund will be recorded in a spreadsheet which will be made publicly available no more than 2 months after the Overwatch World Cup. Photographs of the receipts for specific transactions can be provided upon request.

In the event we have excess funds, they will be spent on producing higher quality content (e.g. rented video cameras) and/or additional Team Singapore merchandise for giveaways. Any usage of the funds will be declared in the publicly available spreadsheet mentioned above.

Backer Rewards

• We will contact you through email to receive the details for your rewards (e.g. Backer role in Discord, apparel size and customisation).
• All amounts are in SGD and include registered shipping within Singapore, where applicable.
• If overseas shipping is required, then you must cover the costs for the registered shipping service of your choice.
• All physical rewards, including the photos, posters, T-shirts, jerseys and jackets, will be produced and delivered after the Overwatch World Cup to determine demand and the amount to produce.
• If possible, the Coaching and QP/Arcade game sessions will be conducted before the Overwatch World Cup. However, due to time constraints and priorities, they might be conducted after.
• The LAN practice sessions will be held on a weekend afternoon or evening at one-north.
• In the event we are unable to fulfill the rewards you are eligible for, we will contact you to provide a suitable replacement.
