Pavina (Pa) Thephithuck, is a tireless and committed champion of justice in Laos, who has supported and inspired the access to justice and pro bono community in Asia and globally. In her life she has helped to support so many persons, and now needs others to come together to provide a little support for her, and her next operation.

In August, Pa at 30 years old, suffered a debilitating stroke. Doctors struggled to stop the bleeding, and this led to emergency brain surgery, which helped to save her life. Strokes in young adults are reported as being uncommon, comprising 8% of all stroke patients (WHO). However, compared with strokes in older adults, strokes in the young often result in them having significant to full recoveries, especially if treatment is provided quickly and efficiently. In Pa’s case we are confident that this has been done and continues to be. However, to help ensure that this happens, there are important needs and goals that must be achieved. click here to read full article

Pa is now almost 3 months into her recovery, she has embraced her new challenges resulting in her enthusiastically doing her rehabilitation and remaining connected to her access to justice and pro bono community. While initially fully paralyzed on the left side of her body, Pa has begun to be able to limitedly walk with a cane, unassisted, and has recovered partial use of this side of her body.

In early November, she will go back in the hospital to have a permanent plastic plate placed in her head from where the surgeons removed part of her skull when they had to do brain surgery in August.

While Pa had health insurance, due to both the immediate need for specialty surgery, which was performed, and continues to be performed at private hospitals in Thailand, and follow up continuous, daily rehabilitation at a clinic in Thailand, the coverage she had likely will only cover 10-20% of her current and long term costs.

To date, a number of persons have already come forward and asked how they can help to assist Pa. While some have already made financial donations, most have been asked to wait until there is a better understanding of the current and long-term costs for Pa.

Pa is now at that point of know and therefore is reaching out to all of you to help her and her family to help her financially in whatever reasonable way you feel you can. To do this, Team Go-PA is seeking financial support for Pa and her family to cover these medical costs and is setting a target of $20,000 USD to assist her. This amount is still likely less than ¼ of the overall current and near future costs she and her family has/will undergo, but it is a target that together we feel is really achievable.

Team GO-PA is launching this campaign on World Stroke Day (29 October 2020) and will run through until International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 Dec 2020). Donations can be made at any time during these dates. In addition, on these two specific dates, (29 October 2020 & 3 Dec 2020) you can also join Pa "virtually" and move for justice in the "Global Pro Bono Move".

Dec 3 – Walk with Pa Today – via the “Global Pro Bono Move”

Update posted by Team GO PA at 12:55 pm

It is 1 month since Pavina (Pa) went into the hospital to have part of her skull replaced with a plastic shell. This was done because it was removed back in August, during the emergency treatment related to the stroke she suffered. The surgery went really well, she continues to. . . . .
