I left my corporate job to follow my passion for teaching and travel.I am also an organic farmer.
I have been teaching underprivileged kids in India for the past 2 years. I am always on the lookout for new experiences & cultural exchange. I would like to teach the kids of cyclone Pam affected places in Vanuatu(Pacific Island Country). I teach kids English as well as help them with mental/physical activities for self development. All of the funds raised will go exclusively for this purpose. I plan to spend 3 weeks in Vanuatu in October 2019. It would be 5 hours of teaching every day during the week and I get the weekend off. The exact place will be updated as soon as I get the best options confirmed.
Why Vanuatu? One of the reasons is that I could find only limited volunteering opportunities there and I have reasons to believe not many people opt to go to Vanuatu. And, Vanuatu is not a major tourist destination and for the same reason whatever money I spend there will directly go to the community. Also, Indians do not need visa in Vanuatu for 30 days. This would be an opportunity that would test my resilience to the maximum as I this would be the farthest from home that I would be, in a small island where I do not know anyone, amenities are basic and life would be as natural as it can be. This opportunity could either strengthen my belief that humans are the same everywhere. We have the same fears, insecurities, compassion, love etc irrespective of the differences in skin tone, facial features or genetic makeup. Or it could make me a stronger and hopefully wiser person.
I love working with smaller, local communities as it is the rawest deal that you get to understand people and culture while adding value to the community.
I will be able to update pictures from Vanuatu only once I go there. Hopefully I will be able to raise enough funds for this purpose. Even a $10 contribution would add up to fulfilling my big dream of teaching in Vanuatu, and add value to the local community there.
