I am raising funds for my summer trip to Africa with One Heart Source (OHS). OHS is a student- initiated non- profit organization that provides opportunities for some of the most marginalized students in Tanzania, Zanzibar, and South Africa to improve their lives through education. OHS was founded by university students from UCLA in 2008. Since its inception, OHS has evolved from an organization that focused on educating students on HIV/ AIDS and community health, to an organization that strives to improve the harsh educational and social realities that most of Sub- Saharan Africa currently faces.
I have been accepted to join OHS for four weeks in Zanzibar, working as an educational mentor to students from a local township. During my time in Zanzibar, I will work with a small group of University students from around the world on improving math and literacy skills of primary school students.
