Hi my name is Maeve and I am currently a Psychology student in Queens University Belfast. I have been given the opportunity to volunteer in Nepal for 2 weeks, teaming up with Plan My Gap Year to help provide education to young children and adults living in a underdeveloped area with little to none opportunities. I will be contributing to the project by teaching English and a variety of other subjects to Nepalese children. This will massively benefit the people of Kathmandu as a shocking 41% of the Nepalese Adult population are illiterate. This is due to the poor quality of education, as many of the teachers are under-qualified, especially in teaching English.
Therefore I am very excited and honoured to take this opportunity, however it is self-funded and I am hoping to reach £1200 by the 12th of March.
