A kid that learns is a smiling kid! Not enough kids in the world today are getting an education. The Make a Kid Smile Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in some of the world’s poorest countries get a quality education. They provide new methods of teaching, new materials and extra resources such as volunteers.
We are teachers in Virginia who are part of the Global Buddy Schools (GBS) which facilitates interaction and communication with schools in different countries. One educator is a high school teacher who teaches an ecology class. Another is an elementary school teacher who teaches a class of 5th graders. They both have corresponded with classrooms in Nepal and are exploring the difficulties the Nepalese students have learning in their environment.
Our hope is to send three teachers and a student to Nepal next April to interact with the teachers in these classrooms. The Make a Kid Smile Foundation would like GBS educators to come to Nepal to help their teachers improve their teaching skills and methods, and to collect ideas for future lessons. They are also in desperate need of supplies, so we plan on bringing books, classroom materials, teaching tools, games… with us on the trip.
The Make a Kid Smile foundation is a non-profit, so therefore they are not able to provide financial support for airfare and expenses. We are volunteering to provide support to these teachers and are solely responsible for raising the funds ourselves. We are trying to raise the funds for our airfare, so any contribution you can make will help us achieve our goal of improving the education of these children in Nepal. We are excited to meet them.
