TEACHER TESS NEEDS OUR HELP

Our mother, Maria Theresa Baldonado, or Teacher Tess, as what her students used to call her was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer stage IIIB last August 2016. Her doctor's initial treatment plan was for her to undergo chemotherapy and radiation at the same time. She also had to finish 6 cycles of brachytherapy after. We were all glad that her body responded well to the treatment.

1st quarter of 2017, Mama was able to go back to her normal activities, just in time for the coming of her first grandchild. When she first held her granddaughter, we saw happiness, the kind of happiness that cannot be explained. But that happiness didn't last long. August of 2017, during her check up, her doctor broke the sad news. The tumor recurred. She had to undergo chemotherapy immediately. Just a day after the check up, her 1st of the 6 cycles was scheduled. A week after, she started to lose her hair. We saw sadness in her eyes. That was her fear. She feared losing her hair. She feared that her granddaughter might not recognize her when she goes bald. The doctor told us to expect Mama to lose her hair this time, unlike the first 6 cycles of chemotherapy.

We were able to finish 6 cycles again, however, her body didn't respond well. Her doctor is recommending another drug to try. When we asked about the price, we were shocked. 1 drug costs around 110,000, and we need to complete another 6 cycles with that drug. My parents were starting to lose hope since we can't afford that drug.

We, their children encouraged them, even if we know it will be hard, that there's a way to raise funds for the treatment. There must be a way.

So, here we are, humbly asking for your help to raise the amount needed for the 6 cycles of chemotherapy with the drug Bevacizumab. Unfortunately, that drug is not included in the chemo drugs being sponsored by the government agencies providing assistance to those in need.

With the rising prices of the basic commodities, we know that asking for your help to raise funds would be an inconvenience, but we believe that there are still generous souls with big hearts who are willing to help. Help us give Mama and her granddaughter a chance to spend more time with each other. Any amount from your big heart will be a big help.
