A team of 15 students in their fourth and final year at Strathclyde University (studying primary education) are travelling to Malawi in May 2013.
While we are there, we will be teaching in the primary schools. The schools in Malawi have class sizes of up to 300, and the teachers are untrained. We aim to teach the teachers some of our teaching strategies, while also learning from them!
We hope to raise money with the aim to donate to Mary's meals - a charity which provides much needed food to the malnourished children of Malawi.
Additional to this, we wish to provide some money for the expansion of schools with the aim to perhaps reduce the large class sizes. We wish to use some of this money to provide the schools with extra resources for teaching the children.
To raise this money, we are undertaking a range of fundraisers - such as bake sales, dances, carol singing, craft sales, car boot sales, raffles and lots more.
We will be participating in the Glasgow Santa Dash on the 9th December 2012!
We hope to raise sponsors for the Santa Dash or simply donations for what we feel is a very worthy cause.
