We are the Taylors and we would like you to prayerfully consider partnering with us as we respond to God's call to pursue being trained for the work of pastoral care, teaching and strengthening the body in areas such as marriage and family life. We believe at this season in our life God is leading us to have Sean apply to attend Sovereign Grace Pastors College based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

We currently live on the beautiful island of Jamaica in the West Indies, known for a number of different things, including:

  • Reggae Music
  • Scrumptious Jerk Chicken
  • The world's fastest man Usain Bolt

But this may be something you didn't know. The Guinness World record reported in 2009 that Jamaica has the most churches in the world, per capita. Pretty much, you can find a church on every single street corner it seems. It would be safe to say that the majority of Jamaicans would embrace the affiliation of being "Christian." While on the surface that sounds great, sadly what is also known about our country is that it has one of the highest homicide rates in world according to the United Nation's Office on Drugs and Crime.

Paul in his epistle to Titus gave a piercing commentary on a certain group of people; "They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works" (Titus 1:16). With a heavy heart I must confess that this too is an accurate description of the state of many on our "Christian" island.

It is our conviction that our country Jamaica is still in need of the true and biblical Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are grateful for Churches that do exist that are faithful to a God centred life through Jesus Christ, one of which is our own home church Christian Life Fellowship, where God has built our family up through the word and enriching fellowship.

Notwithstanding, for far too long Jamaica has broadly been exposed to a "gospel" that is no good news at all. One fraught with legalism, superstition and man-centred teachings; " having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power" (2 Timothy 3:5).

In Ephesians 4 Paul reminds us of why Christ gave us the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers:

  • to equip his people for works of service,
  • so that the body of Christ may be built up

We believe that God is building a strategic relationship between Sovereign Grace Church and Jamaica to help train and equip us to fulfill the call of God over our lives to "go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ (Matthew 10:7).

We see this relationship impacting in 3 ways:

Through raising up Gospel centred church communities that will impact the lives of individuals in their God ordained spheres of influence, whether in the homes, work, school or play; through faithfully living out the Gospel in word and deed.

Many Pastors and church leaders like ourselves in Jamaica have never had the privilege of formal training, especially due to the limitations of financial resources. We are trusting that as God allows us to benefit from the relationships, training and resources of Pastors College that we can be used to train faithful men and women and produce gospel-centred resources to equip and build the Churches of Jamaica.

For years, Jamaica has been on the receiving end of the work of Gospel missions. We would love to see ourselves and others being used to spread this ministry of reconciliation" to all corners of the globe.

Currently to attend Pastors College our family will have to relocate to Louisville, Kentucky in the United States of America for Sean to study full-time in a 10 month concentrated theological programme. The new academic year for this programme will begin in September 2016, as such God willing we will have to make plans to relocate some time prior. Tuition cost and other education expenses stands at USD 8,650. The College has also indicated that a typical living budget for a family of our size for the tenor of the programme will be approximately USD 33,750. Totaling USD 42,800.

God willing if Sean is accepted, after completion of the programme our family would be sent to a local church (usually within Sovereign Grace Churches) for internship. Currently we are unsure of the cost associated with that initiative, however as it becomes more clear to us we will update you.

Please pray for us. As we think about the journey ahead we approach with much fear and trembling, because we know what is required will be costly and will move us out of our comfort zone. But at the same time, we are excited because we know that only God can bring us to this point. As such if He is "building this house" our building will not be in vain. Will you build with us?
