Campaign Story
My father's battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) grade IV, (a very aggressive type of brain cancer) started September of last year. Initially he was diagnosed having Alzheimers and so we expected that his mental function will be affected however the rapid decline in his overall health (including his mobility and speech) urged us to see a Neurologist. The doctor requested for an MRI and the result confirmed GBM- a fist size mass located on the left side of his frontal lobe.
This confirmation shook our reality and since then every day is a constant challenge. The family sat down together and discussed the two given options.
1. Surgery
Pros:
- Will prevent tumor growth
- Life expectancy will be prolonged for 1 year and on rare occasions 3 years (maximum)
Cons:
- Our father's life will be put on the line
- Possible paralysis and speech impairment post-op
- After surgery he will need to go through radiotherapy & chemotherapy which will cost us around 1-1.5 million pesos
2. Pallative Care
Giving him the best quality of life possible.
We opted not to undergo surgery as it will put our father's life at risk. The doctor has given him 3-6 months to live. We are now on the 8th month and my father is still fighting to live and survive. To be here with us. We ask for your kindness and generosity to help our family support his battle against this horrible disease. The funds that you will help us raise will go towards his medical expenses (NGT feeding supplements, medical diagnostics/medical laboratory, daily medications). We would also greatly appreciate it if you could include him in your prayers.
Thank you and God bless.
