Tanzania Soweto Primary School Fundraiser

Hello Everyone,

New Year = New Project :)

For my IB education Grade 11 Tanzania Service Trip I’ve decided to raise money for the Soweto Primary School, which I’m going to visit in February with my school. The project that we’re going to complete during the 11-day trip is about helping people in Tanzania by improving the infrastructure of the primary school. The lack of infrastructure has affected the quality of education of the children in the village and has made teaching inefficient and difficult for teachers.

"An estimated 2 million children between the ages of 7 and 13 years are out-of-school, ....the poor quality of education dampens children’s prospects of a productive future.” This quote from UNICEF highlights the severity of the problem of the region.

My school community wants to help change this situation. The money that I raise will be used for hiring local builders to build 2 classroom roofs and complete repairs. We are also raising money to buy a printer and photocopier for the teachers who have to handwrite every exam at least 50 times. On top of that my classmates and I will be completing essential maintenance work: painting classrooms, repairing and varnishing desks, laying cement, etc.
