Trip Details. I am hoping to go on a 2 week gap experience to Tanzania, Africa in June 2015 with a friend to complete a medical volunteers programme with Plan My Gap Year. The trip costs £1200 which pays for the accommodation, flights, travel insurance, work visas and work experience placement. My friend and I wish to embark on the trip because we both want to become doctors- I would like to be a brain surgeon- and study medicine degrees at Edinburgh University. This trip will help us gain insight into the medical world and how healthcare is different for poorer countries than it is for us in the UK. While we are in Tanzania, we will have the opportunity to work in a local community clinic where we will work in areas such as minor surgery and get to operate an x-ray machine. We will also have the chance to explore the Tanzanian countryside and even climb Kilimanjaro if it so takes our fancy! How Will Your Donation Help? Your donation will help to pay towards my trip to Tanzania which costs £1200. The reason that I want to become a brain surgeon is because I enjoy helping people and that job will help me to properly fulfil my dream. Therefore, this gap programme is a good idea for me because not only will it give me valuable work experience in medicine and hospital work, but it will also mean that I can help more people who need it perhaps more desperately than those in 1st world countries. For me, this is very important as I truly want to make an impact on the healthcare community (no matter how small) and I need you to help me with this by donating some money towards my cause. As well as achieving my dream and getting work experience, the gap programme will also hopefully make me stand out on my UCAS application to university and earn me a place on the medicine degree course which will mean that I can become a doctor and help even more people. Why Should You Get Involved? There are lots of charities nowadays asking for money for lots of causes and I understand that you probably feel a bit overwhelmed by them all and therefore will be slightly apprehensive towards forking out yet more money for an individual who is asking for donations. However, this is a cause with a difference! For a start, I am an individual teenager asking for a one-off donation towards a life changing trip which will hopefully land me a place on a medicine course in a prestiged university. Secondly, your donation WILL help to change my life as when I raise enough money to embark on this trip, not only will I be able to stand out from other UCAS applicants when applying for university, but I will also be able to help to improve the lives of those who live in poorer conditions than us. Your money WILL go to good use and it will be put towards helping people- both myself and the patients of Tanzania- unlike other charities who spread their money out a lot so that individuals don't get helped very much. So please, help me raise enough money for the trip by clicking the 'donate' button on my fundraising page  thanks!
