Smack on Pantai Chenang sits the restaurant Red Tomato Langkawi. Step inside to enjoy the cool shade and the warmth of its atmosphere. You will notice that the bright red of the establishment’s signage matches the hair of a busy woman bustling about, supporting her team of staff in making sure you have everything you need. Invite her to sit with you and you can be assured that she will make time to have a chat, even if for a minute or two. This is the iron lady behind Red Tomato whose bright red hair matches her fiery spirit: Tanja Bindemann.
Tanja’s marathon story began properly 2 years ago when she signed up for the first Runkawi and completed 21km. She’d always been a swimmer and runner, but that took a 20 year hiatus as she dedicated her time to raising her son as well as running her restaurant. Taking part in Runkawi sparked her to put on her shoes again and since then, she has been steadily improving her half marathon runtime.
Earlier this year, Tanja signed up to do her first 42km at the Gold Coast Marathon. As this is no longer feasible due to the global situation, she has decided to alter her plans to instead run 21km in Langkawi as part of a virtual participation for the marathon. At the same time, she aims to raise RM10,000 for the animal rescue NGO, World Of Our Furry Friends (WOOFF LANGKAWI).
If you are a friend of Tanja’s or even if you have had the pleasure of meeting her in your visit to Red Tomato Langkawi, please do support her run for a cause and donate. All contributions made on our Go Get Funding platform is channeled directly to WOOFF’s paypal account. Do come by to Red Tomato on the 5th of July between 4.30pm - 7.30pm to cheer her on!
