Hello,

In our usual world, I’d most likely be in the process of picking a cause and a country on the map right now and I’d begin planning my next volunteer trip. So many of you have supported and followed me through my volunteer trips to South Africa and Sri Lanka, so I decided just because I can’t physically travel due to closed borders, that doesn’t mean I can’t find another way to support a cause that I feel strongly about.

The past few months have been a challenging time for me - as I’m sure it has been to all of you - going through personal struggles, watching our industry crumble, and feeling helpless as so many things were out of our control. With all the hardship this period also gave me a chance to re-evaluate many things, and have definitely reminded me to always strive to find the positives - no matter how small - if we want to move further, as it is so easy to get caught up in all the negativity.

A place and community where I have been learning so much about that is Tabitha Children’s Hospice House, whose mission is to to care for children with life-limiting or life threatening conditions in a loving environment. Tabitha House is a non-profit that supports over 100 families and relies on donations and volunteers so that they are able to offer all of their services free of charge. It is not a hospital, but a “home” for children and their families. If you think it is a tragic and overwhelming place, you are wrong. The only thing that is overwhelming here is the amount of love.

We often forget how much we have to be grateful for, and COVID is definitely a good reminder for us all not to take anything in life for granted. However these children and families did not need COVID to remind them of that, and this is just one of the many things that I have been learning from them during the past year since I started volunteering here.

One thing that I am really grateful for is the people in my life, and all the support I am surrounded by. Knowing the strength and power of my community, here I go again, reaching out to ask you to support Tabitha House and its families alongside me. If you have the means, you can donate here (100% of the collected amount will be transferred to Tabitha House).

I know the past few months have been challenging for everyone, so donating money is definitely not the only way to help. We have definitely increased our time spent on social media during COVID, so if we are mindful and use our time to educate ourselves, we are already doing something meaningful. If you are unable to make a donation, you can help so much by learning more about Palliative care, by sharing this campaign, by spreading the word, - and with that - by helping to change the perception around Children’s Hospice.

A great first step towards that is to watch this video about Tabitha Children Hospice House:

If you feel like this is too overwhelming for you, just read a few lines from the professionals working at Tabitha House that might change your perspective just a tiny bit:

“A lot of people are afraid of children’s hospice as it is a terrible place in many people’s minds, let alone if you talk about children, as it can be even more tragic. Instead, this is the house of life. It is about how we live our lives before death. How we give meaning to the last hours or minutes, days for a child and their family. Death is actually considered part of life here. We are born, live, die, it is a process. Not only the length of life matters in hospice care, but the experienced things and the quality of life also.”

“We believe that there is always help, that is why we provide everything to families for free. Our biggest reward is being able to comfort someone, it is seeing some relief or a smile on the faces of children and families, it is being able to share their burden and it is to help relieve some of their pain. We are grateful for representing love, that has never have and never will fail anyone.”
