This page has been set up to raise some funds for a young victim of bullying and discrimination. The child's mother has given me permission to post her photos and share her story in the hope that this will raise awareness and bring a change. I am a big believer that a potential impact can arise from the ripple effect of a small action. By sharing this story, I have faith that this will empower people to stop, act, take a stand and make a difference. Meet Samantha, a beautiful 7 year old Mauritian babygirl with a curly afro. A couple of days ago, Samantha’s mother posted a story on facebook about her child experiencing constant bullying and discrimination due to her hair. Her post made headlights on the news which caught the attention of many causing an explosive uproar of emotions and anger on social media. Samantha's mother, Sonia has expressed that her daughter has copped hurtful remarks and negative stares since she was a toddler. She was born with a beautiful thick curly fro which often catches a lot of attention. Sonia explained that the discrimination Samantha's deals with is a daily occurence of criticism, hateful body shaming comments about her kinks and coils, her hair being pulled in school, unsolicited advice about how to 'tame' her afro. She often comes back home in tears from school, unable to contain her emotions. Mum spoke about a recent incident at the beach involving two girls who teased Samantha for having her hair out which made her feel extremely down and anxious. At her young age, she is already struggling with self-esteem issues and finds it challenging to appreciate her hair texture. Sonia is fed up with people showing so much hatred towards her daughter. She tries extremely hard to help her daughter overcome this hurdle but it's a lengthy and challenging process. Bullying can cause serious harm and have a lasting effect on people especially children. It's not okay to be shunned off, ridiculed, mocked and excluded. Hearing Samantha's story has moved me to stand up and act for her. As a result, I have decided to raise some funds for this beautiful girl for her schooling expenses and help her mum throw a nice birthday party for her on February 23rd. If you have a spare $1, please donate it to this Samantha. Let's support her and do this collective action to put a smile on her face. Samantha I want to personally tell you that you are loved, appreciated and supported by many of us who have been moved by your story. Keep your head up and let's face it together.
