This page has been set up by family and friends to raise money to pay for Lauren’s treatment, who has been suffering from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Most people haven’t heard of hyperhidrosis because it’s not a common condition that many people suffer from.  

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating in certain parts of the body such as the armpits, palms and soles of the feet. It has been estimated that around 8 million people (3%) of the U.S population has this condition. About 1% of adults both male and female suffer from hyperhidrosis and it begins in childhood and it increases through puberty and into adulthood. Hyperhidrosis involves sweating in excess of the amount required for the body level of activity and temperature. There are two types of hyperhidrosis- primary and secondary.

Primary hyperhidrosis is the excessive sweating in the armpits, hands, face or feet, which is what Lauren has been suffering from all her life, and it has only gotten worse. Primary hyperhidrosis begins during childhood and gets worse during puberty and it last a lifetime unless you seek treatment.  Hyperhidrosis impact the ability of Lauren to interact effectively during the workplace and it has devastating effects on her social and personal interactions. She struggles to interact with others and this has caused her not to pursue her dreams.

Here is what Lauren had to say about how the condition affects her. 

''I go from having a good level of self-esteem to insecure to being anxious in a quick second. Excessive sweating is something I can never get use to because it’s frustrating and it has stopped me from pursuing my dreams. Unless you have deal with it yourself, you can never really understand the severity of the condition. The worse part of it is that you have no control over it, especially in important situations such as during interviews and exams. Hyperhidrosis stops me from doing something as simple as shake or hold someone’s hand. If it wasn’t for my excessive sweating I would probably be more outgoing and happier in my personal relationships but hyperhidrosis stops me from being in any relationship. Professionally I dread certain situations. When I have to show my portfolio or give presentations my palms get sweaty and I start to panic. I always leave wet fingerprints on paper, books and boards’’.
