Please help me get to Columbia - My name is Dimpho Lekgeu. I am a final year student from the University of Pretoria. I have been accepted as a candidate to attend the One Young World Summit 2017 in Bogotá, Columbia. One Young a delegates are people between 18-30 years old who have demonstrated leadership ability and a commitment to effecting positive change.

Early last month, I was announced as one of 10 finalists (out of over 500 applications) in line to receive a scholarship to attend this year's One Young World summit through the Leading South Africa Award. I had the pleasure of meeting with HE Dr Maria Eugenia Correa Olarte, Ambassador of Columbia in South Africa together with other ambassadors and representatives from One Young World partner companies.

Unfortunately, I was not selected as one of the final two candidates to receive the award and I am in need of your help.I need to raise R 70 000 (including airfare) to attend the summit between 4 - 7 October 2017 and I would appreciate a contribution or a sponsorship from any company or individual.

I have already secured R 20 0000 from Wiphold Capital. I have also managed to bring forward R 5000 as an investment towards myself frim freelance media work.

I have been occupying spaces in leadership and community development since I was 16. In 2012 during my grade 11 year, I was selected to be part of the Campaign for Girls leadership program. The programme is aimed at the holistic development of young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2015, I joined ANN7 news channel as the youngest news anchor and current affairs reporter. Two weeks after my on-air debut, I was promoted to be the host of Africa Tonight. The show is an all-African platform for ordinary Africans, academics, activists and decision makers to debate and discuss issues that are pertinent to our continent.

In 2015, I also became a volunteer and strategist for Pledge a Pad, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes sanitary towels to schools in underprivileged communities around Pretoria. Through the organization, I facilitate workshops on education, sexual health, menstrual health and other topics affecting young high school girls in South Africa.

I am deeply passionate about young people, transforming mindsets through media and bringing change in my community and I would love to represent South Africa - a country I am so proud to be a part of.
