Like most of the mountainous areas here in the Philippines, most the children of Tagbaw Elementary School in Marilog District, Davao City have to walk 2-3 kms to get to school. By walking I mean crossing rivers, and hiking.
There are almost 100 students in the school and they live in a beautiful environment with breath-taking views, and have access directly from nature for food and other needs. They wake up to these things every morning and see beauty but they have to struggle everyday to get to school to have access to early education. Only a few gets a chance to finish until the 6th grade because at an early age most of them choose to work, earn extra money to provide for their families.
Going up and down the mountain to their place, going through the trails, and crossing rivers from and to the nearest city will take 3 hours so these kids have not seen it yet.I need help to show them what is beyond these mountains. That there is more to learn outside their classrooms. What they could have access to if only they would strive to go beyond the 6th grade. What they could give their families and communities if they would make an effort to know more.
These are the things I believe we could do:
- Go to the city and have a little field trip
- One or two computer units that they can use in school (they have solar-powered electricity)
- School supplies in a school bag
These will all happen first week of June, start of school year 2019-2020
If these would happen, I wouldn't be able to describe how thankful I will be. Neither how to describe how these kids would feel but I will definitely share photos and videos.
This is my first time here in gogetfunding and I don't even know if this would work but I have faith.
