Campaign Story
After surviving the devastating flood and strong winds in the past weeks from Typhoon Rolly (Goni) and Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) our kababayans have found themselves without shelter in the community of Barangay Goa, Camarines Sur.
Thirty six (36) houses were completely destroyed; four hundred (400) houses were partially damages, mostly with their roofs destroyed.
The target of this drive is to raise funds to help the victims rebuild their houses so that they can have roofs over their heads before Christmas. We are currently assessing the immediate needs of the households that were displaced due to the back to back typhoons that hit the area and are tying up with larger organisations that can connect us with suppliers to provide galvanised iron (GI) sheets or trapal (tarpaulin) for these houses.
Please follow instagram.com/tabang_abucayan for more information and updates, and help us spread awareness for this cause.
30 December update:
Today, 30 December, we distributed housing kits to 10 families in Abucayan, concluding our fundraising drive.
We are truly thankful for your donations. You responded to our call of providing roofs over our kababayans' heads with your compassion and generosity.
With the remaining funds amounting to Php75k that was left from previous relief drives, we were able to provide a starter kit for building back the houses of nine of the most impoverished families in the barangay. Each kit included:
6 colored GI sheets (yero)
4 pcs of 1/2 inch marine plywood
8 pcs 2x2 coco lumber
1/2 kg ordinary nails
1/2 kg umbrella nails
1 pc 8 ft roof ridge
When we started this initiative, we said that we wanted to help only one family, a goal which we were also able to attain by donating 10 GI sheets to them.
Here's to hoping that our relief drive will help the families start 2021 looking forward to getting back on their feet and, when they are already able, even help others in the future.
Thanks again and God Bless all of you good-hearted souls who touched the lives of the families who lost their homes and livelihood due to the recent typhoons.
Cheers to a better 2021 for all of us!
