I'm Simon, a foreigner living in the Philippines for almost a decade. I'm currently studying as a high school student. The Philippines has a high vulnerability to natural hazards which are attributed to the nation's geographic position in Southeast Asia. With my experience living in the Philippines, people unite all together as one in catastrophic calamities. We survived one of the deadliest typhoon, Typhoon Yolanda last 2013, and people all worked together to overcome the fears and destructions. However, we are currently experiencing another natural disaster, a volcanic eruption.
Last January 12, 2020, one of the active volcanoes of the Philippines erupted. Taal Volcano, known for tourism spot for foreigners for its beauty, distance from Manila and unique tracking; horse back riding, shocked everyone when it released massive ashes. Luckily, it was recorded that only few people were actually hurt by the volcanic event.
However, we are not the only victims of this event but animals, too.
Thousands of Filipinos living near the area evacuated and some of them weren't leaving behind not just their homes but their pets as well. Around 400 horses used for tourism, thousands of pets, stray animals, livestocks and endangered species are suffering from volcanic ashes, hunger and thirst.
Few organizations are on their voluntary rescuing activities but they are critically in short of numbers. As a student who loves animals and feeds street animals daily, this news caught in my eyes and pledged to help them in any ways possible. Since not many are reaching out with animals, I want to do all that I can to help. I beg all of you, people to please think of the animals suffering even now, while you are reading this, to please consider them and pour your love by donating any amounts.
All donations will be sent to PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) to fund their rescuing activities and their needs in cow feed, dog food, cat food, water and bowls/cups.
Do not leave them. Remember who were always there with you when you had hard times.
