Campaign Story
This a community empowerment project - and my passion.
For a number of years now I have been conceptualizing and designing low cost housing that has little to no environmental impact. The driving force behind my concept is to empower those in need, to build their own house from re-purposed items, that not only gives them a warm, safe and dry place to call home, but in the process teaches them skills they can in turn impart to their children and other members of the community
All the planning and costing is done, all I need now is funding to rent the land and build the first house.
Once the first one is built, I will live in it to test extensively, any problems or design flaws will quickly rear their heads, for me to complete the prototype I need the tools as well as materials. The tools to build are the biggest initial expense at $10,000 which will then be used to build more homes as we go. The complete 20ft house will cost $11,000 to build, and the 40ft $17,000. Initially only a 40ft will be built along with a very simple barn costing $3,000 used to store the tools and protect the house from the elements while being built. (The $17,000 can be collected slowly during the 8 weeks of the build.)
The house is designed around either a 20 foot or 40 foot high top shipping container as the core of the house. 20 Foot being 2 bedroom at 516 square foot (48m²), and the 40 foot being a 4 bedroom at 1032 square foot (96m²). The bathroom/s and kitchen are inside the container, a pre-fab galvanized steel frame bolts onto the top and front of the container creating the bedroom space and framework for the roof, as well as space for the lounge and dining-room.
The angle of the roof as well as window placement are specifically designed for maximum warmth and sunlight in winter and cooling airflow in summer.
The house has a solar system, composting toilet and greywater system, along with water tank for rainwater catchment.
Funding me will put me in a position to help members of the community who are without homes to build their own and live self sufficiently in an eco-friendly way. They can in turn use their skills they have learned to help their friends and families do the same.
Thank you for your donation, I look forward to making my passion a reality.
