One of the problems of Philippine public schools are the libraries. According to the Department of Education, the total number of registered public schools with libraries are 9855 as of 2014. Considering the student population in these schools, the ratio would be 1 library for every 2324 students (based on the school year 2017-2018 enrollees). This means that libraries are a problem in public schools since it is inadequate for students. Moreover, some of the public schools have either poor libraries or no libraries at all.
With this in mind, the CKI Club of UPLB has made a mini-library project. Since the start of our project, we looked for the nearest beneficiaries and started small-scale. Our nearest beneficiaries are the public elementary students from Brgy. Batong Malake. This is one of the largest Barangays in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. The library will be a common area for studying, photocopying printed materials, and lending textbooks needed in their respective subjects.
However, bringing this project to life will require a tremendous amount of effort, time, and of course, money; that is why we are sincerely reaching out to your generous hearts for your donations.
